An extremely calm, composed and subtle innings from Shikhar Dhawan was enough to see the Sunrisers through in a tricky run chase. The target set for the hosts was a low one, but the pitch definitely had a few demons of its own. A disciplined bowling performance from the Sunrisers Hyderabad meant that Gujarat could only get a paltry 126 on board.
The Sunrisers didn’t have an ideal start either as David Warner and Kane Williamson departed quickly. Shikhar Dhawan was simply brilliant as he displayed nerves of steel in the chase. Dhawan exhibited great patience and commitment in order to hang in there and see his side through the chase. On the back of Dhawan’s unbeaten 47 off 40, the hosts got to the target with an over to spare.
In the post match presentation, Gujarat Lions skipper Suresh Raina admitted that his side bowled well to defend the small total. Raina though, expected his batsmen to improve for their remaining games. “We bowled pretty well. To defend that target is not easy but I think credit must go to SRH for restricting us to that total. We fought really hard with the ball. Shikhar took the responsibility and he batted really well. We need to be more positive regarding our batting plan. We cannot afford to lose that many wickets in the first 6 overs,” said Raina.
“I’m not sure what happened with Finch and I will go out and check now. Hope he’s fine. It’s not about losing or winning, it’s about how well we apply ourselves. Bravo bowled really well and hope we will get back to winning ways,” Raina added.
