Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy Round Up: Rahane’s 78 Guides Mumbai To A Win, Delhi Defeats Jammu And Kashmir Despite Gambhir’s Failure

North Zone –

The star-studded game between Delhi and Jammu & Kashmir was none less than a bad experience for J & K side as riding on an economical show from its bowlers, Delhi was able to restrict the opposition team on a low total of 103, which they then chased down easily at the end of the day, despite the failure of Gautam Gambhir right at the start.

After winning the toss, Delhi took the right decision to bowl first, a decision which seemed to be in their favour. J& K had a pretty slow start. They were struggling to touch the run-rate of six in the first 12 overs of the game, as a result, they start losing wickets in order to increase the run-rate.

Meanwhile, Delhi bowlers made merry out of the pressures situation with all-rounder Manan Sharma emerging as the most successful bowler for Delhi by taking two wickets at cost of just 13 runs. Ishant Sharma too bowled an economical spell of 3-0-5-0.

Delhi had a poor start in the race to the target of 104 but in the end, an innings of 30 from Shikhar Dhawan and innings of 49* from Unmukt Chand helped Delhi to churn out four points from the game, kicking off their tourney with a win.

Brief Scores:

Ajinkya Rahane, who was dropped from the T20I squad for the series against England, sent a message to selectors by playing an innings of 78 runs in just 53 deliveries. Mumbai had a poor start as they lost the wicket of Shreyas Iyer on a score of 11 but then the experienced duo of Ajinkya Rahane and skipper Aditya Tare (79) steered the team ahead, sharing 152 runs for the second wicket, to help Mumbai put 211 runs on the board.
Baroda, riding on brilliant innings of 69* runs from Vishnu Solanki made every effort to eclipse the target but they fell short by a small margin of six runs at the end of the day, thus losing the nail-biting game.

Had Taha caught that two chances, the result could have been different.
Batting first, Karnataka posted a total of 144 which at one stage seemed to be a defendable total but Tamil Nadu, riding upon innings of 45 and 34* from Dinesh Karthik and Murugan Ashwin respectively, snatched the game from them, to seal their first win of the T20 tournament.
