Sportzwiki’s T20I XI Of The Year

Sportzwiki’s T20I XI saw a lot of competition this year. While Rohit Sharma and David Miller broke the record of fastest century in this format of the game, Colin Munro shone for Kiwis with two centuries in this form of the game.

Giving a vital picture of the performances this year, let’s have a look a T20I XI of the year –

Evin Lewis – A T20 specialist, Evin Lewis, kept India winless in the lone T20 game on India tour of Windies in the month of June-July. Lewis scored a hundred and handed India a defeat in the game. He had a dream run in 2017 in the shortest format of the game and scored 357 runs at a huge strike rate of 154.54. In nine games; he hit 31 sixes in the year, the maximum by any batsmen in the year.

Colin Munro – Can one imagine a batsman hitting two T20I centuries in the year? Colin Munro achieved this feat in the year in just seven games. He scored 224 runs with a strike rate of 169.69. Munro would accompany Lewis to open the innings T20I XI of the year.

Hashim Amla – It’s a surprise to see the name of Amla on the list because he seems to be a Test specialist but has turned into the great T20 player as well. With 269 runs under his belt at an average of 53.80, Amla would find his name in any list of the year. He scored three half-centuries in the year.

Ab de Villiers – Emerging out as the highest run-scorer for his side, De Villiers scored 304 runs in seven games. He also hit 12 sixes and 24 fours in the year, which helped him accumulate more than 50% of his runs regarding boundaries. ABD batted at a strike rate of 152.00.

Marlon Samuels – The prime reason behind Windies’ twice world cup winner making it to the list is his hitting abilities. Marlon Samuels will come out to bat at number five to sway his bat. His power hitting can help any side raise the run rate at any point, especially while chasing the target.

Thisara Perera – The newly appointed skipper of Sri Lankan team, the all-rounder will not just perform the role of an all-rounder but will also lead the side. Though he did not have a good season on captaincy front but talking of his record, he had a great year.
Perera scalped 13 wickets and scored 181 runs in 2017. He can also be adjudged as the best T20 player of the year.

MS Dhoni (Image Source: Twitter)

MS Dhoni – It was a mixed year for former Indian skipper, MS Dhoni. On some occasions, it looked like he might call it a day; on the other occasions, it looked like he has regained his Midas touch. Dhoni batted at an average of 42.00 in T20I cricket this year and scored 252 runs. He also hit nine sixes in the year.

Yuzvendra Chahal (Image Source: Twitter)

Yuzvendra Chahal – Starting as an underdog in the year 2017, Chahal soon turned into a need for the Indian team and had almost fixed a place for himself in the limited overs team. His leg spin alone has already seen few of the senior players being dropped from the limited-overs side and the leggie made much sound in 2017.

He emerged as the highest wicket-taker in the year 2017 in the shortest format of the game with 23 wickets. The difference between his tally and Rashid Khan (second highest run scorer) is six, which tells his impact in the year.

Rashid Khan – It was a dream year for the leg-spinner, not just in ODIs but in the T20I format as well. He has emerged out as a star and has become a need for his side. Rashid scalped 17 wickets at an average of 9.41, the best in the year. He bowled at a strike rate of just 4.57, which is unbelievable.

Kesrick Williams – Williams scalped 17 wickets for his side in the year, eight of which came in the series against Afghanistan. He bowled at a good average of 12.88 and had an economy rate of 6.95, thus making it to the list.

Virat Kohli (12th man) – Surprising but true. Virat Kohli couldn’t emulate his Test and ODI form in this format of the game. While mixing up with his batting position in the year, Kohli couldn’t do wonders in T20I cricket and managed 299 runs in 10 games. He scored runs at an average of 37.37 in the year with a strike rate of 152.55.
