Temba Bavuma Looking Forward To Playing More Limited Over Matches

Temba Bavuma is one of the most talented young batsmen in cricket currently, and he has a bright future in the coming years. His ability to play the ball late has helped him become a regular member of the South African Test team. Bavuma has been a regular in the limited-overs format as well but hasn’t made it to the playing XI often.

However, the upcoming tight schedule for the South African team in 2018 might give Bavuma an opportunity to play more white-ball cricket. South Africa is scheduled to play nine limited over matches in February. Bavuma made his Test debut in 2014 and had played 24 Tests for the rainbow nation scoring one century.

Bavuma has only played two ODI’s and has batted in only of them. He scored a century on his debut against Ireland in September 2016. He then played his second ODI in the recently concluded home series against Bangladesh in which he was involved in 119 runs opening partnership with Quinton De Kock.

Bavuma feels that the upcoming Ram Slam T20 tournament will be a great opportunity to prove his case for the forthcoming limited-overs series in 2018. Bavuma will play for Cape Cobras in the tournament, he said;

 “Where Test cricket is all about the pressures that goes with that format, T20 cricket is about going out, expressing yourself and having fun, our batting is probably where our strength lies, and we can lean on so much fire-power which will allow the bowlers to defend big totals. We also have so much experience with the ball, batting sets you up in T20 cricket, but it is the bowlers who win competitions, I am confident of our chances in the competition.”

Talking about his approach for the T20 tournament he said that he won’t be looking for big rash shots but will look to find boundaries through gaps and placements.

“My approach in T20 cricket would be to hit boundaries by finding the gap. Whatever is demanded, whatever my body tells me to do, I will do. The question is – what is demanded.” he said.

In 2016, Bavuma dismissed David Warner of a splendid direct hit which was widely hailed as one of the greatest direct hits in the past two decades. Talking about his fielding he said:

“I don’t do more fielding practice than the average guy. Growing up, I bowled, but now I don’t so I have learned fielding as my second skill. Fielding is a big attitude thing. Everybody can catch or stop a ball. But it is just about having enjoyment and a love to contribute to the cause,”  he said.
