The Fact I Played A Vital Role In a Win For Pakistan Was The Proudest Moment, Says Mohammad Abbas

Pakistan newly introduced fast bowler Mohammad Abbas believes his hard work has paid off after he was inducted into the national team’s Test squad for the recently concluded three-match series against the West Indies, as visitors script history by claiming their first-ever Test series win on the Caribbean soil by sealing the series 2-1 after Roston Chase almost pulled off a dramatic draw in the final Test.

“I faced many disappointments and hurdles but I did not stop working hard and kept my focus on the game. So when my name was called up it was like my hard work had paid off and I had taken the first step towards the realisation of my dream,” Abbas was quoted as saying by Express Tribune, Pakistan.

Abbas believes the dream debut became possible only after sheer hard work and dedication to do more on the cricket field. Following the hard work back at home, Abbas has given his best to impress the selectors of Pakistan, as his journey was comprised of many hurdles in the domestic circuit.

“The fact that I played a vital role in a win for Pakistan was the proudest moment of my life,” Abbas said.

The 27-year-old Abbas has been exceptional with the ball, who has had the affection for the tape ball cricket, started playing cricket at an age of 10 when he played over congealed maidans and street cricket was his first choice before he was suggested by his friends to join club teams.

“When I began playing first-class cricket in 2009, my next aim was to play for the national team and that is what I have been working hard for all these years,” Abbas remarked.

The seam bowler Abbas has been the leading wicket-taker in Quaid-e-Azam Trophy, which is the highest level cricket in the domestic format for Pakistan.

“There was so much pressure of bowling but I was lucky to have supporting seniors,” Abbas recalled his debut experience in the West Indies.

Abbas, who is currently attending a training camp in England, has grabbed the opportunity with his both hands on the Windies tour. The right-arm fast bowler has claimed 15 wickets in his six innings after conceding 288 runs.

“Also, when I took that first wicket it boosted my confidence. The pressure of playing international cricket was immediately released.

It’s pertinent to note, he has been a leading wicket-taker in two consecutive seasons while being the part of Khan Research Laboratories and Pakistan Television.

“This was the perfect start I wanted, and it was all possible due to my tireless effort. That and the prayers of my parents are to thank for this,” Abbas expressed satisfaction over his performance.

The Sialkot-born Abbas’ best figures came in the final Test match at the Windsor Park in Dominica where he bagged five wickets after giving away 46 runs.

In 10 matches for KRL, Abbas bagged 71 wickets at an exceptional average of 12.74 in 2016/17 season. He sent down 97 maiden overs, as he also claimed eight five-wicket hauls.

In 2015/16 season, Abbas bagged 61 wickets in 10 matches at an average of 16.78 which also included 82 maidens.
