There were rumours of Balaji not playing the league this season, as he had already earlier opted to coach Tamil Nadu side where he performed the role of bowling coach. He also coached IPL franchise KKR in IPL 2017. Balaji had already announced his retirement but did not clear news about him playing in the T20 league. On Sunday though, the former India fast bowler confirmed the news of him not participating in the tournament.
In his 16-year long career, Balaji played 30 Tests, eight ODIs and five T20Is, with his last appearance international appearance coming in T20 World Cup in 2012. From then, he never made a comeback to the side and after four domestic seasons hung up his boots.

Meanwhile, Tuti Patriots have emerged out as one of the strongest teams in the league. They are already on the top the table with three wins in three games. In addition to that, Dinesh Karthik’s addition is also a big boost for them.
However, Karthik will leave the camp in a week or two, if selected for the ODI series against Sri Lanka.
Though Balaji’s presence in the backroom staff will be quite beneficial for the team, as he has a healthy experience of playing international cricket and was one of the strike bowlers for India at one point of time.
