England’s Tom Banton is set for his maiden IPL stint as Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) bought him at his base price of Rs 1 Crore.
Banton first drew limelight when he shone in England’s white-ball competitions. In 2019, Banton finished as the second-highest run-scorer in the Vitality T20 Blast with 549 runs in 13 innings at a strike-rate of 161.47. He also scored 454 runs in 11 Royal London One-Day Cup matches at 41.27.
As per a report in dailymail.co.uk, Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians inquired about his availability to Somerset ahead of the auction and Banton became one of the most-talked players.
Following his success in domestic cricket, Banton earned his maiden T20I call-up for New Zealand T20Is and scored 56 runs in three matches on the tour. He has played 21 T20s in which he has scored 663 runs, with one century and four half-centuries.
Banton has an experience of playing in India as he was a part of England U-19 team that travelled to India a few years back. At 2018 U-19 World Cup, Banton scored 233 runs at strike-rate of 98.31.
