Top 10 teams that lost most international matches

Cricket is a team sport and the team that doesn’t gel well as a unit on a particular day will often end up on the losing side. Here we look at the top 10 teams that have faced most defeats in international cricket history.

10. Bangladesh – 321 defeats

One of the young nations playing cricket, Bangladesh have the least number of defeats among all the test playing nations. This is mainly because of the number of matches they have played compared to all other test playing nations. The tigers have lost 321 games in 467 games they played at international level.

9. South Africa – 362 defeats

One of the finest sides since their re-entry to the game in 1991, South Africa have become a top side over the years and have dominated all three forms of the game especially during the last decade. They have lost 326 games in their 1045 long international career.

8. Zimbabwe – 432 defeats

The minnows of cricket at the moment, Zimbabwe has never made the most of their rise in cricket and now are in a position where the players are even unable to make a living out of the game. The African country have lost 432 games in 619 games they played so far.

7. Sri Lanka- 494 defeats

The island nation has emerged as a top cricketing nation during the late 90s and have only built on it over the years. Sri Lanka has still need to improve a little in test cricket, but as a whole they are a very good unit. They have lost 494 games in 1097 games so far.

6. Pakistan – 533 defeats

One of an unknown performers in world cricket, Pakistan are the only team which can exceed all expectations when no one expects any and also can flatter very badly despite high hopes. Despite all of this, they have always had the best bowling among all Asian countries if not among all. They have lost 533 games in 1358 international matches.

5. West Indies – 541 defeats

The West Indies have had their peak domination during the 20th century but they had lost their way since the start of the 21st century but have had some of the finest players even then. They are still a great team in the shorter formats but has not maintained that level in the longest format. The Caribbeans have lost 541 games in their 1326 international matches.

4. Australia – 542 defeats

One of the best sides in the cricket history, Australia is only at the 4th position despite playing most games than any other nation which speaks volumes about their level of cricket. They have been a strong side since cricket began to till date. Australia have suffered 542 defeats in 1748 international games.

3. New Zealand – 553 defeats

The dark horses of cricket, New Zealand has never dominated or boasted great records but they have always played as a unit despite having inferior players when compared to other heavyweights of the game. The Kiwis  suffered 553 games in their 1204 international games.

2. India – 583 defeats

Despite having a formidable side since the 1980s, India has had its lean patches all through its history. They had a couple of golden years followed by few hiccups in the journey which have made them 2nd most defeated a team in Cricket history. Another factor that adds to this is the amount of games they played when compared to others. They have suffered 583 defeats in 1464 international games.

1. England – 638 defeats

The home of cricket, England are the most defeated team in the world. Most of this is also due to the fact that they played the second most number of games only next to Australia. England were humbled 638 times in 1723 international games.
