Top 5 Partnership Pairs in International Cricket History

Partnerships in cricket are very much valuable. We have witnessed many partnerships for throughout the years of cricketing history and some of them brought glory for the teams on important occasions. Here is a list of the top 5 partnership pairs in the history of international cricket which includes tests, ODIs and T20s.

5. Marvan Atapattu and Sanath Jayasuriya: This has been one of the most consistent opening pair for Sri Lanka for many years. They played together in 266 innings and scored 9995 runs together and were involved in 23 century partnerships and 50 half century partnerships.

4. Rahul Dravid and Sachin Tendulkar: This has been India’s one of the pivotal partnership pair for over a decade. Both are legends of the game and they have also made huge partnerships together and stood up by giving stunning performances when the team required them to perform the most. They scored 11037 runs in 247 innings at an average of 47.98 with 31 centuries and 43 half centuries.

3. Gordon Greenige and Desmond Haynes: These two legends have been strengths in the Caribbean line up for quite some years. They played several match winning partnerships too. They scored 11688runs from 251 innings at an average of 49.52 with 31 centuries and 51 half centuries. They held the baton of the top order of West Indies and did set a brilliant partnership and took the team in a commanding position for most of the times.

2. Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly: Now, this has been one of the best opening pairs, the cricket world has ever witnessed. The duo were Indian openers in the late nineties and played some outstanding knocks together and were involved in many record breaking partnerships. This has been India’s best opening pair till date in ODIs and they have jointly many records in their partnerships. They have scored 12400 runs in partnership in 247 innings at an average of 54.45 with 38 century partnerships and 45 half century partnerships.

1. Mahela Jayawardena and Kumar Sangakkara: They have formed one of the solid pairs in modern times cricket. This partnerships excelled equally in all forms of the game and recently they overtook Sachin –Sourav in the list and are presently the pair with highest number of runs in international runs in partnerships. They scored 12430 runs in 272 innings and have registered 33 century partnerships and 57 half century partnerships.
