Mahendra Singh Dhoni has been one such cricketer who has defied all the odds and has gone on to become one of the greatest ever ODI batsmen despite not being a technically sound batsman. He is a street-smart cricketer and doesn’t rely on technical aspects to deliver him the goods. Instead, he knows his limitations very well and sticks to the unconventional ways which have given him results for more than a decade.

He has done things which other individuals haven’t dared to do. Now take the example of the recently concluded ODI series in Sri Lanka where Dhoni was sleeping on the ground when the match was halted due to intervention from the crowd. Never before in my life, I have seen a cricketer taking a power nap on the field. As the whole world looked on Dhoni unfazed as always kept lying on the ground and went off the field only when the match was called off with India returning as the winners.

A similar incident was visible once again, but the place has changed. Instead of the ground, it was the airport where Dhoni was yet again seen taking a power nap. He doesn’t even care of his stardom, and it is because of his common roots that he has remained so calm and humble even after achieving so much in international cricket. While KL Rahul, Virat Kohli, and few others were enjoying their time, Dhoni was lying in between them and taking a power nap after playing yet another match-winning innings during the opening ODI against Australia at the Chepauk

Batting first, India was in early trouble after being reduced to 87/5 but from there on it was Hardik Pandya and MS Dhoni who ensured India stage a dramatic comeback and reached a competitive total of 281/7 in 50 overs. While Hardik was dismissed for 83 of 66 deliveries which contained five fours and five sixes, Dhoni played a patient innings and took the onus on him to play the big shots when Pandya was dismissed.

After scoring 79 of 88 deliveries, Dhoni was dismissed in the final over of James Faulkner in a bid to play another big shot. Dhoni’s innings was decorated with four fours and a couple of hits over the fence.
