On the first Boxing Day match, New Zealand brushed aside Sri Lanka in the first ODI of the five match series at Hagley Oval, Christchruch. Demoralised Sri Lankan team batting first bowled out for 188. Milinda Siriwardana scored 66 off 82 balls and Nuwan Kulasekara scored 58.

But, Brendon McCullum, who will retire from international cricket in February, at his home venue has played a destructive innings. McCullum and his opening partner Martin Guptill blew away Sri Lankan bowler. The captain scored 25 balls 55 while Martin Guptill scored 56 balls 79. New Zealand chased down the target in 21 overs with 7 wickets in hand.
