Under-19 Asia Cup: India Under-19 vs Afghanistan Under-19 – Match Report

India Under-19 continued their domination in the ongoing UCC Under-19 Asia Cup by defeating Afghanistan side by three wickets. The Boys in Blue had to toil hard to chase the target of 125 runs but they eventually got to their destination in the 39th over.

Afghanistan U-19 captain Farhan Zakhil won the toss and decided to bat first. The Afghan team got off to a good start as the openers Farhan Zakhil and Sediqullah Atal added 51 runs for the opening alliance.

The boys continue their domination.

However, Afghanistan kept losing wickets at regular intervals to fall behind in the match. Afghanistan was reeling at 68-6 however a gutsy knock of 39 runs from Abidullah Taniwal was able to take his team to 124 runs.

On the other hand, Sushant Mishra was wrecker-in-chief as he scalped five wickets. Furthermore, he conceded only 20 runs in the 9.1 overs he bowled. Atharva Ankolekar also breathed down the neck of the Afghanistan team as he took four wickets for the Indian team.

Meanwhile, India got off to brisk start with Arjun Azad scoring 21 runs from 20 balls with the help of four fours. Subsequently, India’s wicket-keeper batsman Salil Arora and Shashwat Rawat added a good partnership of 57 runs to help India get close to the target.

But India slipped from 84-2 to 106-7 to cause some panic. India’s middle-order collapsed like a pack of cards to give a sniff to the Afghanistan side. India’s Under-19 skipper Dhruv Jurel could not trouble the scorers. However, Karan Lal and Purnank Tyagi were able to hold their nerves to add the finishing touches to the run-chase.

Noor Ahmad scalped four wickets for the Afghanistan side. India tops the Group A points table with three wins out of as many matches and thus they have also qualified for the semifinal. Afghanistan Under-19 team has also qualified for the last four. The final of the Under-19 Asia Cup will be played at R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on 14th September.
