Time and again, MS Dhoni has proved that he is one of the best tactician the game has ever seen. One such incident was witnessed when Pakistan played against India in Guwahati in 2007.
Batting first Pakistan were 163 for 3 in the thirty ninth over. While the run rate was not alarming for team India, the presence of Shahid Afridi on the pitch was. With still over 10 overs remaining, Afridi could have easily taken the match away from India. However, Dhoni once again gave an apt example of his superb cricketing brain as his instructions helped Sachin Tendulkar to dismiss Afridi.
The master blaster was bowling the 39th over. The second ball of the over was hit for four by Afridi. The Pakistani batsman made room to hit the shot over extra cover. On seeing that, Dhoni asked Tendulkar to bowl wide deliveries to the batsman. Following Dhoni’s advice, Sachin bowled a wide delivery. Looking to charge Tendulkar, Afridi stepped out and made some room to hit over the off side by backing towards leg. The ball spun away from Afridi, beat the outside edge of his bat and Dhoni whips off the bails with Afridi well outside of the crease.

Coming to the match, Pakistan could manage to score only 239 runs on a good batting pitch. Salman Butt and Mohammad Yousuf hit half-centuries for the visitors. Chasing the target, India made a shaky start as they lost Tendulkar with only 14 on the board a 105 runs partnership between Dhoni and Yuvraj Singh settled the issue.
