Fiery Bangladesh pacer Taskin Ahmed went on to take a hattrick in the second ODI against Sri Lanka at Dambulla some time ago. Ahmed, a regular member of the team since mid 2014, put on a display of fine death bowling as he decimated the Sri Lankan lower order in the last over of the innings.
After having been embarrassed in the first ODI by the visitors, Sri Lanka were eager to make amends and do so big time. Correcting the blunder of their previous game, Sri Lankan skipper Upul Tharanga had no hesitation in batting first and doing so reaped tremendous rewards for him.
Talented number three batsman Kusal Mendis scored a fine century and continues to impress with every outing in international cricket. Thanks to some productive contributions in the middle order as well, Sri Lanka managed a colossal 311 on board, having being bowled out one ball before the scheduled close of play.
In the final over of Sri Lanka’s innings, Taskin was on absolute fire as he took a hattrick. The right arm pacer took the final three wickets of the Sri Lankan innings to bowl the hosts out one ball before the eventual close.
By doing so, Taskin made history as he became just the third pacer in world cricket, after England’s Steven Finn and New Zealand’s Shane Bond to take a hattrick in the final over of the innings. At the moment, Bangladesh’s chase could commence owing to a rain delay.
Below, is the video of Taskin taking a hattrick.
