Former Indian opener Aakash Chopra has said Indian captain Virat Kohli is far ahead of Pakistan’s limited-overs captain Babar Azam. Both Kohli and Azam are often likened with each other by the cricket boffins. However, it is pertinent to note that Kohli is way more experienced than Babar Azam. Kohli made his international debut back in 2008 whereas Azam announced himself at the big stage in 2015.
Consequently, it doesn’t make a lot of sense to compare the two as Kohli has more than twice the experience than Azam. Meanwhile, it is also known that Kohli is regarded as an all-time great as his record speaks for himself. The Indian captain is the most consistent batsman in the world.
Virat Kohli is the best in the business
Kohli is the solitary International batsman to have an average of more than 50 in all the three formats of the game. On the other hand, Babar Azam has shown the right promise to go a long way in his career. The right-hander has impressed with his technique and he has ticked the right boxes.
“Babar is an exciting talent. There is no doubt about that. It is also true that Virat Kohli is very far away in this race. He is older and started cricket before Babar. Virat’s name is already included in the conversation of all-time greats,” Aakash Chopra said while talking to former Pakistan bowler Tanvir Ahmed.
“The real question is whether Babar will be able to reach those heights which depend on many things such as discipline, injuries, form, and many other things which will come along as time goes on. Talent can only take you to a place but you have to have that incredible passion that drives you forward. Virat did not have that from the start but fostered it along the way,” Aakash Chopra added.
Meanwhile, the 25-year old stylish batsman from Pakistan has scored 3359 runs in 74 ODI matches at an impressive average of 54.17. On the other side, Kohli has an immaculate record in the 50-overs version as the talisman has scored 11867 runs in 248 matches at a staggering average of 59.33.
Virat Kohli is the number one batsman in the ICC ODI rankings whereas Babar Azam is at the numero uno position in the ICC T20I rankings. Azam still has a lot of catching up to do as Virat Kohli has been the most consistent batsman in the last decade.
