ToggleTeam India’s preparations for the rescheduled Test against England have been hit by a spate of Covid cases. One of the players who have contracted the virus is reportedly former captain Virat Kohli.
Earlier this month, Team India landed in London for the rescheduled Test and the limited-overs series against the hosts. The Test was a part of last year’s five-match series but had to be postponed after a Covid outbreak in the Indian camp.
The rescheduled Test will be followed by three T20Is and three ODIs. The T20I series is scheduled to start just a couple of days after the completion of the rescheduled Test while the ODI series will start on July 12. India’s tour of England will conclude on July 17 after the third ODI.
Virat Kohli among several players struck by Covid:
According to a report in The Times of India, Virat Kohli is one of the several players in the Indian camp who have been struck by Covid-19 in recent times. The report stated that the former India skipper was down with Covid when he landed in the UK earlier this month.
Prior to arriving in the UK, Kohli had gone to Maldives for a much-needed vacation after the IPL. Apart from Kohli, ace spinne Ravichandran Ashwin has also not travelled to the UK along with his teammates after testing positive for the virus.
Fortunately for Team India, Kohli has recovered now and has started preparing for the upcoming game. Earlier this week, he was spotted posing for few photos with the fans in Leicester.
“Yes, Virat too was hit by Covid after returning from holidaying in Maldives, but he’s recovered now,” a source told the news outlet.

The source further stated that India are unlikely to have an intense warm-up game against Leicestershire scheduled to start on Thursday (June 23). There are possibilities of Kohli being rested for the game. The source also said that there could be more Covid cases in the team.
“This now means that India’s tour game against Leicestershire from June 24 won’t be as intense as coach Rahul Dravid wanted it to be, since the medical advice is to not overload the players after they’ve suffered Covid-19. There could be more Covid cases in the team,” revealed the source.
Meanwhile, the rescheduled Test is scheduled to be played in Birmingham from July 1. India are leading the series 2-1 and a draw in the upcoming game will be more than enough to clinch the series. Team India are eyeing their first Test series win in England since 2007.
