Virat Kohli did the right thing in chasing the target says Mohammad Azharuddin

Former Indian skipper Mohammad Azharuddin has come out and supported Virat Kohli. He said that the Indian Captain Virat Kohli had done the right thing in chasing the huge target in the first Test match against Australia.

Virat’s venture to go for a win today chasing a target of 364 runs on the fifth and final day did not succeed in the end as India lost the match at Adelaide by 48 runs after losing last 8 wickets for 73 runs.

Mohammad Azharuddin was not too disheartened with India’s batting skills though and said it actually revealed the strength of Australia’s bowling attack.

While speaking to a news channel Azharuddin said he thinks Virat Kohli did the proper thing in chasing the target. They were doing well, the batsmen were playing quality cricket but India lost important wickets and it put us on the back foot.

Azharuddin piled more praise on Virat, who became only the 2nd player in Indian Test history to score a ton in both innings on his debut as skipper and selected him out as the most important player for India’s campaign in the next year’s World Cup.

Azharuddin added saying that he thinks Virat Kohli and Mahendra Singh Dhoni will be the most crucial players for India during the World Cup. In One Day Internationals, Dhoni is a very good player and he will get his credence back once he starts playing some matches. He rated Virat Kohli and South Africa’s AB de Villiers as his favourite player of the World Cup.

Stacking praise on Virat, Shoaib Akhtar said – The way the way he has played in this Test match, he has proved that he is not only a great one day cricketer but also a great Test player.

When Shoaib was asked about India’s chances of defending the World Cup, Shoaib Akhtar replied that the key factor for India is that they have three fast bowlers now who can bowl fast at 140km/hr but they need to be fit. If Pakistan can show daredevil actions and India can show the proper zeal to win then either of the two teams can win the World Cup.
