Virat Kohli Doesn’t Play for Record Says His Childhood Coach

Team India skipper Virat Kohli is in the form of his life and has been breaking records after records across all three formats of the game. During the 2nd day of the 3rd and the final Test against Sri Lanka at the Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium in New Delhi, Kohli broke former Windies skipper Brian Lara’s record of most Test double centuries as a captain. Kohli went on to smash his 6th double century in the longest format of the game and joined the likes of Sachin Tendulkar and Virender Sehwag with most Test double centuries for India.
Following his memorable knock on his home ground, Kohli’s childhood coach Raj Kumar Sharma said that the Indian skipper doesn’t play for records and concentrates on playing good cricket with a proper technique.
‘Virat just concentrates on playing good cricket with correct techniques. He loves to win the matches for the team and wants his team to be number one in all the formats of the game,” Sharma was quoted as saying by the ANI.
Sharma went on to add that Kohli is the most consistent batsmen India has ever produced. However, he said that Kohli shouldn’t be compared with Sachin Tendulkar as it is unfair to compare a youngster with someone who has served India for 24 long years. Tendulkar holds the record for most runs and centuries in both Test and ODI’s and also holds the record for playing most Tests and ODI’s.
‘We should not compare him with Sachin. Sachin has played for the country for 24 years. Virat is too young now and we should not compare him with such a legend,’ he said.
Meanwhile, earlier in the day Kohli also went on to become the first captain ever to score centuries in all 3 Tests of a 3 match series. He also became the fastest Indian batsmen to reach 5,000 Test runs.
