India cricket superstar has expressed sadness over the deadly triple train accident that happened in Odisha on Friday night (June 2). The Bengaluru-Howrah Superfast Express, the Shalimar-Chennai Central Coromandel Express and a freight train collided in one of the deadliest rail disasters in history.
The accident was triggered by derailment near Bahanaga Bazar station. 300 metres from the station, the Shalimar-Chennai Central Coromandel Express, which was on its way to Chennai, got derailed before colliding with the goods train on the adjacent track. As a result, the rear carriage of the Coromandel Express veered off onto the third track.
The worst was yet to happen. The Bengaluru-Howrah Superfast Express, coming from the opposite direction on the third track at a high speed, rammed into the derailed coaches. The train was on its way to Howrah. As of now, nearly 250 people have been confirmed dead while more than 900 persons have been injured.
