On Monday, the International Cricket Council has released Test rankings of the Individual in all categories. The Indian skipper Virat Kohli leads the batsman chart with 922 points in his kitty. He last featured in a Test match when India bagged a historic victory against Australia in Australia.
Virat Kohli, now, becomes the seventh Indian Cricketer to seal the number 1 spot in the ICC Test rankings. However, such has been his dominance in the last couple of years.
Cheteshwar Pujara at third:
Apart from Kohli, the other Indian batsmen who have previously officially been ranked No. 1 in Test cricket are Sachin Tendulkar, Rahu Dravid, Gautam Gambhir, Sunil Gavaskar, Virender Sehwag, and Dilip Vengsarkar. He is even ahead of Gavaskar on the all-time tally of points with 934, 14th overall in the list in just 67 Tests.
If Kohli delivers a performance similar to the one in Edgbaston in the second Test at Lord’s, then he can break into the top-10 by going ahead of Matthew Hayden, Kallis and AB de Villiers. All those players have highest points tally was 935 each. Donald Bradman (961) and Steve Smith (947) are the two batsmen sitting on top of this exclusive list.
In the bowlers’ list, two Indians feature in the top 10 with Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin holding the sixth and 10th spot respectively. Currently, the fast bowler from Australia Pat Cummins is leading the chart while Kagiso Rabada is at 2nd followed by James Anderson closely.
In the all-rounder category, the only player from India to be placed in the top 10 is Ravindra Jadeja. He is a third on the table with Jason Holder of Windies and Shakib Al Hasan of Bangladesh taking top 2 roles.
