Virat Kohli to sing for AR Rahman

Indian star batsman Virat Kohli will be under tremendous pressure not for cricketing reasons, though, as he is going to sing for the first time professionally.

The premier batsman has been roped in as the brand ambassador for Premier Futsal. The football tournament is the first of its style with 5 players in each side and a total of 40 minutes to be played. Virat Kohli is going to sing the official anthem of the tournament for which AR Rahman will be the musical composer.

“I’m under more pressure than on the field as I’m sitting next to a person I hugely admire,” said the cricketer, “Many of my childhood memories have a connection to the tunes of this man. I know how to prepare for cricket, but I have no clue about a recording session.”

The video of the anthem Naam hai Futsal will be recorded and released over the next few days. Elaborating on this, AR Rahman said, “We’ve been working on the song for a week. Virat’s portion will be a rap… I will make it easier for him.”

Virat Kohli had heaps of praise for AR Rahman as he said, “During any cricket game, the only song that gets everyone together is Vande Mataram — the version Rahman composed. Apart from the national anthem, that’s the only time you hear 50,000 people singing. I connect to that song in a special way as I get goosebumps hearing it.”

Premier Futsal will be a very format to India as it is the shorter version of football and aims to bring in more people to watch football. Football is an ever growing in the game with a lot of new people getting interested in the game every year.

The tournament will be played during mid-July and will feature eight teams from across the country. No doubt having a player like Virat Kohli will boost the popularity of the tournament over the next few days.
