However, Kohli continued his assault on the South African bowlers as he remained unperturbed. The Indian captain scored his 26th Test century and then went on to convert it into a seventh double-century – which makes him the only Indian batsman. Kohli leapfrogged his idol Sachin Tendulkar and former opener Virender Sehwag’s tally of six centuries. The linchpin batsman scored 254 runs with the help of 33 fours and two sixes.

The talisman also completed his 7000 Test runs. On the other hand, Ravindra Jadeja was able to get off the blocks in a jiffy. Jadeja got quick runs and batted at the top of his game. However, the left-hander missed on his second Test century as he was dismissed on 91 runs. Jadeja and Kohli went on to add a big partnership of 225 runs for the fifth wicket alliance.
