Former India opener Virender Sehwag hailed Mr. 360 AB de Villiers after the South African swashbuckling batsman smashed a sensational 176 of a mere 104 deliveries which propelled the hosts to a score of 352 in the 2nd ODI at Boland Park in Paarl. Sehwag was first to predict a double century for de Villiers as he took to his twitter handle and wrote, “Wow ! what smashing by AB De Villiers. Should become the first middle -order batsman to score an ODI-double.”

Soon after Sehwag’s tweet de Villiers was dismissed on 176 to bring an end to a sensational innings. Again Sehwag took to his twitter handle and apologised to de Villiers. “Sorry @ABdeVilliers17, Nazar lag gayi. But always a delight to watch you smash bowlers. Incredible hitting !” Sehwag wrote. It was a top class knock from one of the modern greats. Yet again he proved why he is still among the best batsman in world cricket at the moment.

Bangladesh won the toss and asked the hosts to bat. Hashim Amla and Quinton de Kock got them off to a good start, but after the fall of de Kock’s wicket at the score of 90, South Africa also lost the wicket of Faf du Plessis without any addition of the score. De Villiers joined Amla in the middle to resurrect South Africa’s innings.
He looked in ominous touch from the word go and made light work of the Bangladesh bowlers. They sprayed the deliveries all around especially after de Villiers started going hammers and tongs and the carnage didn’t seem to stop. He unleashed a huge array of strokes and deposited the bowlers to different parts of the ground. What an extraordinary innings it was.
His innings of 176 were laced with 15 fours and seven hits over the fence as South Africa were able to get past the 350 mark. It will be a huge challenge for Bangladesh to chase the total down and unless something dramatic happens, the hosts are set to take an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series.
