Virender Sehwag: MS Dhoni Could Have Come Up To Bat Against New Zealand In World Cup

Speculations are being made on the retirement of the former Indian Captain MS Dhoni. He was in the break for two months to serve his Mother India. He hasn’t given any statements on his retirement plan. Meanwhile, in a debate, Sehwag commented on world cup performances that if Dhoni was given a chance to play on the early spot then chances to win the match were more.

Dhoni’s retirement plan debate grew after the disappointing performance by India against New Zealand in the World Cup 2019. When the team was in need of the experienced players, all the first four batsmen just got out in 24 runs.

People hoped that the young player Rishabh Pant would show some Magic through the bat. But his wrong selection of shot got him out in just 32 runs in 56 balls. And Hardik unsatisfactory also got him out after some over. India lost its six wickets in just 92 runs, and they were still 148 runs behind from the target.

Now only the expectations were from Dhoni who came to bat at No. 7. His magic partnership with Ravindra Jadeja rebuilt the match for India. But this happiness was not for long, and Jadeja was out at 77 off 59 balls. The left hope, Dhoni, was runout after making 50 runs and India lost the match by 18 runs.

Dhoni could have come up to bat against New Zealand: Sehwag

In a recent debate, Virender Sehwag expressed that Dhoni should be sent on an earlier spot. By the time he was sent the match already slipped from India’s hand.

“If MS Dhoni had come up to bat against New Zealand, the situation could have been different. Dhoni should have batted when India needed to build the innings,” Sehwag said.

Sehwag opined that India would be in a better position if Hardik Pandya was sent at no.7 in the match.

“Hardik could have batted down the order when 9+ runs were needed. Hardik and Pant could have chased down the high required rate if they came down the order,” Sehwag added.
