It’s April 2, 2011, when Team India lifted their second ICC World Cup after a prolonged gap of 28 years. Meanwhile, Virender Sehwag has recalled about the historic day of India cricket while tweeting about the 2011 World Cup. Over the years, it has been all refreshing and many have often felt it like the powerpoint presentation when ecstatic Dhoni collected the coveted World Cup trophy from the then BCCI president Sharad Pawar.

Overall, it has been one hell of a ride for the Men in Blue under the leadership of Mahendra Singh Dhoni, who has not only emerged as a saviour but helped his nation to take a giant stride in the cricketing landscape.

Furthermore, India won the grand finale by six wickets while riding on a sensation the fifties each from Gautam Gambhir and MS Dhoni.

Back then, batting first Sri Lanka posted 274 for six in 50 allotted overs with Mahela Jayawardene slamming 88-ball 103.

Also, the quickfire 22 off nine balls had easily helped the Islanders to set a competitive target before Team India.

India chased down the target in 48.2 overs despite early jitters. Dhoni remained unbeaten on 91 off 79 balls, whereas, Yuvraj Singh faced 24 deliveries for his 21.

Talking about Sehwag, he returned on nought after facing two deliveries.

For India, Yuvraj was the pick of the bowlers who conceded 49 runs off 10 overs. He bagged the wickets of southpaw Kumar Sangakkara and Thilan Samaraweera.

On the other side, Zaheer Khan bowled a breathtaking spell early. He gave away 60 runs for his two wickets in 10 overs.

Interestingly, the left-arm pacer conceded just five runs in his first five overs which included three maiden overs.

During that World Cup, India has thrashed Pakistan, Australia which further saw the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announcing INR one crore for each of the Men in Blue players.

Meanwhile, the aggressive batsman Sehwag has recalled the moment of the 2011 World Cup.

In addition, he has also asked his fans how they’ve celebrated India’s victory exactly eight years ago. He added India has lived their dream by laying hands on the major ICC trophy.

“WHAT A DAY! World Cup 2011. 8 years ago on this day, we lived a dream and the whole nation celebrated. How did you celebrate?” Sehwag tweeted.
