Shubman Gill’s fine run in the just-concluded ODI series against West Indies ended on a bittersweet note for him on Thursday night. While he continued his fine form in the series, he missed out on a well-deserved century by a whisker due to rain.
Gill remained stranded on 98* as his wait for a maiden international ton extended further. The right-handed batsman was denied by the rain that returned for the second time and brought an early end to India’s innings.
India finished at 225/3 in 36 overs, setting West Indies a revised target of 257 runs. Just one more ball would have been enough for Gill to score his first century in international cricket but destiny had planned something else.

Shubman Gill expresses disappointment:
After missing out on the well-deserved century, Shubman Gill expressed his disappointment over it. The young batsman said that he was hoping to get just one more over of play to complete his ton.
“Was hoping to get a hundred, but that (rain) was not under my control. Was very disappointed how I got out in the first two ODIs. I tried to play according to the ball and let the instincts take over.
“I wanted only one more over, was hoping for that. The wicket played fantastically in all the three games. The ball was gripping a bit after 30 overs. Happy with my performance,” Shubman Gill said after the match.
Meanwhile, Gill finished the series as the top run-scorer after amassing 205 runs in three games. No other batsman managed to touch the 200-run mark in the series.
Talking about the game, India thrashed West Indies by 119 runs to sweep the three-match series. Chasing 257 runs in 36 overs, West Indies were all out for just 137 in 26 overs. As many as seven players failed to touch the double-digit mark while 4 of them could not even open their accounts.

For India, Yuzvendra Chahal was the pick of the bowlers, taking 4 for 17. Both the teams will now lock horns in a five-match T20I series.
