“I Wanted To Prove A Point That I Am Good At International Cricket” Says Yuvraj Singh

Team India registered a 15 run win over England in the second ODI of the series at Cuttack but this win was not just a win for Indian team and its fans but it was winding back the clock for Indian fans who have seen MS Dhoni and Yuvraj Singh batting for Indian team before the 2011 World Cup, before the period when Indian team underwent a change, before the period when the both players were the backbone of the team.

Times change, Indian cricket entered a new era but this partnership was something that was destined to be. Two of the oldest players of Indian team and rivals during domestic cricket, Yuvraj Singh and MS Dhoni shared 256 runs for the fourth wicket at Cuttack to lead India to a superb win. Yuvraj Singh, who was making a comeback in the one-day format in this series played scintillating innings of 150 whereas Dhoni too had a brilliant show with the bat scoring 134 runs.

However, it was the innings of Yuvraj Singh that took the people by storm as he was making comeback in the squad and after his failure in the first ODI, doubts were raised over his selection but he answered questions with the bat today by scoring a century after almost six years.

Reacting to the mixed reactions he got after selection in the national team, Yuvraj Singh said,

“I don’t think about who is reacting to what. Neither do I newspaper nor I watch television. I just try and focus on my game and I wanted to prove a point to myself that I am still good to play international cricket. So I guess that was good today.”

Yuvraj Singh knew that it has been a difficult come back for him and he said that he is looking to cash it,

“Ya, it’s been great since a got a hundred you know. I came back after recovering from cancer. Those two-three years were hard. I had to work really hard on my fitness. Yes, I was in and out fo the team. I was not able, not able to get a permanent spot and there was a time when I thought to continue or not and I think a lot of people have helped me throughout the journey. So, never giving up is my theory so I never gave up, kept working hard so one day time will change.

“Definitely, 150 is a big score in one-day cricket. It’s my highest It’s taken a  long time but I am happy that it happened today and hopefully, in the coming time I can contribute with more consistency.”

Indian team have just one more ODI left before they go to England to defend their Champions Trophy title and Yuvraj’s name in the Champions Trophy squad list will only be encrypted if he is able to perform well in the remaining ODI and the T20Is.

His performance in IPL will be the barometer for selectors to take a call on him and other players.
