Watch: Dinesh Karthik Apologises To Krunal Pandya After Refusing A Single

Tension was all around as India needed 16 runs off the final over to win the third T20I and the series against New Zealand. Dinesh Karthik was on strike facing Tim Southee as the over began. Karthik picked a double off the first delivery before failing to score off the second. And what followed thereafter left many perplexed. In a desperate attempt to hit a boundary, Karthik went for a mighty heave but failed.
He, however, managed to hit the ball towards the long-on. As soon as he hit the ball, Krunal Pandya took off from the non-striker’s end for a single. But to Krunal and other’s utter surprise, Dinesh Karthik refused to take the single. Krunal somehow managed to get back into his crease. Karthik’s decision was a baffling one as his partner had already hit 25 off just 12 balls with the help of two fours and as many sixes.
Dinesh Karthik went on to finish the game with a six but India fell short by four runs, finishing on 208 for 6 while chasing an improbable 213. And after the match, Karthik was seen apologising to Krunal. The cameras picked Karthik telling Krunal ‘sorry’ as both made their way into the dressing room following the loss.
Here is the clip of the whole incident:

Earlier in the match, New Zealand piled up a mammoth 212 for 4 in the stipulated 20 overs. Colin Munro top-scored for the home side, blasting 72 off just 40 deliveries. For India, Kuldeep Yadav was the most successful bowler, picking up 2 for 26 off his four overs. Apart from him, none of the other Indian bowler could manage to concede less than 30. Krunal Pandya was the costliest bowler as he gave away 54 runs off his four overs.

In reply, India came up with a good fight but eventually ended on 208 f0r 6. The visitors lost wickets at crucial junctures which hurt their cause in the chase. The likes of Vijay Shankar (43), Hardik Pandya (21) and Rishabh Pant (28) got the starts but failed to convert them. In the end, Krunal Pandya and Dinesh Karthik revived India’s hopes but could not score the required 16 runs off the final over.
