Maharashtra batsman, Nikhil Naik grabbed eyeballs when he smashed five sixes in an over during a Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy clash against Railways at the Holkar Stadium in Indore. Meanwhile, this will be a massive confidence booster for him ahead of another exciting edition of the Indian Premier League. Naik will ply his trade for the Kolkata Knight Riders in the 12th edition of the league.

Meanwhile, Maharashtra have played some excellent cricket in this year’s domestic T20 tournament. They have won their first three Super League Group A matches against Bengal, Gujarat, and Jharkhand, respectively. Rahul Tripathi & Co faced Railways in their fourth and final Super League stage encounter on March 12. They continued their winning run beating Railways banking on an onslaught from Nikhil Naik. After a poor start, Naik and Naushad Shaikh bail their team out of danger. Shaikh made 59 off 39 deliveries while the young Naik played an unbeaten knock of 95 off 58 deliveries including eight sixes out of which five came in one over.

The young batsman hammered five sixes of Amit Chandika Prasad Mishra, who had conceded just 16 runs in 3 overs, However, he went for five over-boundaries in the 20th over thus ending his quota with figures of one for 46 runs. Nikhil Naik’s onslaught with the bat helped Maharashtra propel to 176 and winning the match by 21 runs.

Meanwhile, Kolkata Knight Riders have roped in the dashing batsman for RS 20 lakh in the 2019 IPL auctions. He will hope to continue this form in the cash-rich league and make a mark at the highest level. However, this will not be his debut season in the IPL. Previous in 2016, Nikhil Naik has represented Kings XI Punjab but failed to showcase his talent.

Besides, Maharashtra will take on Karnataka in the finals of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy on March 14 (Thursday).
