Indian opener Mayank Agarwal was able to roar back in form in the second innings of the warm-up match against New Zealand XI. Agarwal had a disappointing ODI series and could only score one run in the first innings. However, the right-hander from Karnataka got the much-needed runs under his belt before the first Test match at Basin Reserve, Wellington.

The Indian opener scored 81 runs from 99 balls with the help of ten fours and three sixes before retiring out to give his teammates a chance to hit out in the middle. In his fine knock, Agarwal also pulled off the majestic Natraj shot of former Indian captain Kapil Dev. The right-hander took the weight on his right-leg and dispatched the short delivery for a four while keeping his left leg in the air.

Agarwal got the much-needed runs.

Meanwhile, the match ended in a stalemate after India scored 252-4 in the second dig. Out of favor Rishabh Pant also scored a much-needed 70 runs to boost his confidence.

Agarwal said he got the confidence back after hitting a couple of on-drives. The right-hander also celebrated his birthday yesterday.

“I got a couple of on-drives in this innings and as a batsman, you know that you have to be doing a lot of things correct to hit an on-drive. When I got a couple of those, it gave me the assurance that was required,” he said.

Meanwhile, Mayank Agarwal has had a dream start to his Test career and he would look to continue the good show in the two-match Test series against New Zealand. Agarwal also has the experience of playing on New Zealand pitches as he had toured with the India A side.

The first Test match between India and New Zealand will begin from 21st February at Basin Reserve, Wellington.
