Watch: Mitchell Starc Fails To Hide His Laughter After Dismissing Virat Kohli
Mitchell Starc’s reaction said it all after he finally broke the big partnership between Virat Kohli and Cheteshwar Pujara by accounting for the latter. There was not a feeling of relief and even if it was there, it was not visible on Starc’s face as he could not hide his laughter after dismissing the world number one Test batsman.
With runs not coming on a pitch that offered variable bounce, Kohli could not fend off the greed when he saw a short and wide delivery from Starc. Consequently, he went for the shot and upper cut the delivery only to hit it straight into the hands of Aaron Finch at third man. And while Kohli looked disappointed with his shot selection, Starc could not help but smile on getting the prized scalp on such a delivery.
Meanwhile, prior to his departure, Kohli played yet another crucial knock to put India on top. The India skipper had joined Cheteshwar Pujara on the crease on day one after Mayank Agarwal was dismissed for 76 with the scoreboard reading 123 for 2. From thereon, Pujara and Kohli sent the hosts on a leather-hunt. They made sure that Australia do not get another wicket on day one as India ended the day on 215 for 2. And things did not change much on day two too as Australia failed to break the stand in the first session.
Kohli reached his fifty in the morning while Pujara completed his century as India collected 62 runs from the first session. At lunch, India were 277 for 2. However, both the batsmen departed in the second session. Pat Cummins broke the stand by dismissing Pujara before Starc accounted for Kohli who scored 82.
