Former India head coach Ravi Shastri has named his India playing XI for the upcoming World Test Championship Final (WTC 2023) against Australia, starting from June 7 at the Oval in London.

Shastri was the head coach of the Indian team from 2017-2021 and when India toured England in 2018 and 2021 and on their second tour almost defeated England in the five-Test series.

However, in 2019, India lost their final of the first World Test Championship to New Zealand which was played in Southampton.

However, they did better this time and defeated Australia in their recent Border-Gavaskar Trophy series at home 2-1 to make it into their second straight ICC World Test Championship final which will be played in the Oval.

Shastri Picks Ajinkya Rahane In His India XI For WTC Final Against Australia

Recently, in a video shared by Star Sports, Ravi Shastri named his predicted India playing XI for the WTC 2023 final against Australia.

“When you look at the WTC, remember the last time India was in the final, it is very important what you learned from that game. You got to pick a team that suits the condition. In Southampton, it was very overcast,” Shastri said.

He picked 12 players for the Indian team and went with Shubman Gill and Rohit Sharma as the openers, with the veteran Cheteshwar Pujara at no.3 spot. Obviously, Virat Kohli is slotted at no.4 spot, and he will be dangerous for the opposition having rediscovered his form in Tests and even scored massively in recent IPL as well.

He couldn’t choose between KS Bharat and Ishan Kishan as wicketkeepers and said that the decision will be made on the basis of what bowling combination India is going with.

He named Ravindra Jadeja and R Ashwin as the two spinners, while his pick for the pacers was Mohammad Shami, Mohammed Siraj, and Shardul Thakur as the pace bowling all-rounder. Umesh Yadav was his 12th choice.

He said that currently, it is sunny and bright in the UK so India can go with two spinners and then Shardul Thakur can come in as the pace-bowling all-rounder. However, if it is overcast, Umesh Yadav can replace one of the spinners in the XI.
