India’s wicketkeeper Wriddhiman Saha took a stunning catch to dismiss Theunis de Bruyn. The right-hander stood rooted to the crease and made no foot movement to play the backfoot punch. Thus, he got a thick outside edge that flew to Saha. The gloveman dived to his right and took a brilliant catch. de Bruyn was looking good after scoring 30 runs but could not convert his start into a substantial score.

Saha has been preferred for this Test series ahead of Rishabh Pant and the Bengal player is justifying his selection with his keeping skills. However, Saha hasn’t had a lot of opportunities to bat in the middle.

Meanwhile, Mohammed Shami was able to get rid of nightwatchman Anrich Nortje. Shami produced the outside edge of the batsman and it was nicely taken by Indian captain Virat Kohli at fourth slip. Kohli had dived to his right to take a good low catch.

Consequently, South Africa is once again in shambles at 58-5. The tourists’ are in arrears by a big margin of 543 runs. In fact, the Proteas need another 342 runs to avoid the follow-on.

On the other hand, India had posted a huge score of 601 runs after winning the toss and deciding to bat first. Indian skipper Virat Kohli scored his seventh double century in the Test fold. Hence, he became the first Indian batsman to score seven double centuries and thereby overtook the previous record of Sachin Tendulkar and Virender Sehwag.

Furthermore, Ravindra Jadeja had scored a quickfire knock of 91 runs. Indian vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane and Cheteshwar Pujara also scored half-centuries. Earlier on day one, Mayank Agarwal scored a fine century to continue his good form going. Agarwal scored a smooth knock of 108 runs to bring up his second Test century.
