Shane Watson is going to lead Rajasthan Royals in the seventh season of Indian Premier League. He will take over the charge from Rahul Dravid, who got pulled away from all grades of international cricket. David guided the squad to the final of 2013 ICC Champions Trophy last year.

Shane Watson has been playing with Rajasthan Royals since the maiden edition of IPL. He holds onto the position among those five players who got conserved by the franchisee through these years. He has played 61 matches in all the seasons of the IPL and has scored 1887 runs with an average of 38.51 and a strike rate of 143.82. He as well as took 54 wickets with an economical rate of 7.27.

Watson was the hero of Royal’s victory in the inaugural season of IPL. He did 472 runs and took 17 wickets.  He had been entitled with Player of the Tournament crown.

“I am honoured to lead the Rajasthan Royals, an extraordinary team, which has constantly given me awesome opportunities,” Watson said, confidently. “My aim will be to continue playing our best cricket and maintain the winning momentum. We all want to repeat the 2008 IPL success and last season, we were quite close to that. I am confident that we can do it again”. He added.

Rahul Dravid is now playing the role of mentor for Rajasthan Royals. He, along with the coach Paddy Upton and Royals CEO Raghu Iyer has decided that Watson is perfect to replace him as a skipper. He thinks as Watson has continued with this team since 2008, he is quite free-and-easy with his co-players and the staffs.

“The Royals Squad is a bunch of extremely energetic and talented players who know their roles perfectly well and I am sure they will thrive under Watson’s inspiring leadership.” Dravid keeps hoping.
