Australian cricketer Marnus Labuschagne was the star player of 2019 in Test cricket. From a substitute to becoming a crucial player, his journey in the Australian national cricket team has been remarkable. Former Australian cricketer Mark Waugh believes that he is not only the best batsman in the Test format, but he will also soon prove himself best in the shorter formats.

Mark Waugh is confident that Marnus Labuschagne will also create an impact in the white-ball cricket. Waugh didn’t even consider Virat Kohli and Steve Smith for the option for the best batsman as he chooses Labuschagne as the best Test batsman.

“He is probably the number one batsman in world cricket, albeit in the Test format, but I think he can carry that on into the white-ball format as well. I think he has got to bat in the top four,” Waugh was quoted as saying by Sydneymorningherald.com.au.

Marnus Labuschagne to debut against India

Labuschagne is still to make the debut in the limited-over formats for the national team. He will play the first ODI match of his career against India in India. He has shown temperament to play the purest form of cricket and now, his skills will be tested in One-day Internationals.

The middle-order batsman made permanent place after impressing in Ashes 2019. He came as a concussion substitute for Steve Smith in that series and scored four fifties in the Ashes 2019.

In the last eight innings at home, he has scored four centuries, including one double-century.
