West Indies not overly reliant on Chris Gayle in CWC’15, insists Clive Lloyd

Clive Lloyd, the former West Indies skipper, has said that Jamaicans are not overly contingent on Chris Gayle in their International Cricket Council Cricket World Cup 2015 crusade. Lloyd spoke to media in Perth ahead of their clash against India on March 6th. The Chairman of Selectors also supported his team to do their best against India.

Clive Lloyd said that he would not say that Chris Gayle had not really contributed before Zimbabwe. It is great whenever they get a good boost with him. He get scores rather quickly. He is a very dynamic cricketer. Whenever he takes off, it gave the squad a good momentum.

Looking forward to the match against the defending champions, Lloyd said, that the point is that they have a quality bowling attack, good batsmen, and a good all-round team. If they bat, they have to get enough runs to get the victory and defend. They do have the bowlers to do so. This wicket is pretty good. It has got persistent bounce and is a good cricket wicket.

When Lloyd was asked about India’s power and their presentation in the ICC World Cup till now, Lloyd replied that they have won three out of three. So, we cannot fault their batting or their bowling. India is always a daunting side and they will continue to be so.

Clive Lloyd also praised India on their batting line-up, and especially praised Virat Kohli and Mahendra Singh Dhoni. He was quoted saying: “Your middle order is pretty good, Kohli has been excellent for you. You have some good cricketers. Dhoni can do anything any time. You have a good all-round side and that’s why you’ve been champions. I’m sure they want to be there at the end.
