How will the result between India and South Africa impact the ICC T20I rankings

India can now expect an improvement in their ICC T20I rankings in the shortest format of the game. India traditionally has been the powerhouse of T20 cricket over the last decade due to the mammoth IPL.

However, India’s rankings in T20Is in recent times have suggested that they have nit dominated the format.

If India wins the all three games of the series against South Africa, the host would drop down one place to the seventh position. The Proteas are currently placed sixth in the rankings.

However, India’s ranking in T20I will also be dependent on a tri-series miles away from all the action in the rainbow nation.

If New Zealand manages to defeat Australia in the finals of the Trans-Tasman T20I Tri Series at Eden Park, Auckland, India will move one place up and occupy the second position in T20Is.

Current ICC T20I Rankings

With 121 points, India is currently third in the rankings. Australia presently occupies the second position in the rankings with 123 points.

This means that, if India manages to win the rest of the matches in the series, and the Kiwis manage to clinch the Tri-nation series, New Zealand will occupy the third place, and Australia will move two places down to fourth place.

That said if South Africa manages to win the rest of the matches to clinch the T20I series, irrespective of the results in New Zealand, India will move two places down to occupy the fifth position while the Proteans will gallop towards the fourth position from sixth.

With all the armageddon beneath them, between all nations, Pakistan would hold the top spot in the ICC rankings with 126 points, irrespective of all the results.
