Former South African skipper AB de Villiers feels it extremely difficult to pick up the favourites in the World Test Championship final between India and Australia. However, the former RCB batter feels that the Indian team will come over the top of Australia on the final day of the game in Oval, London.
The top two teams in the World Test Championship Cycle (2021-23) India and Australia will square off each other for their maiden WTC final title in England. Both the teams have prepared very hard coming into the final as they played exceptionally well in the last couple of years to earn their spot in historic finals.
Previewing the game between India and Australia, Ab de Villiers said that it is tough to select the favourite between the two successful sides in the red-ball cricket and highlighted that the Indian team has won their previous game in Kennington Oval against a formidable England lineup.
“Very difficult to say who are the favourites. Both teams have not been playing a lot of Test cricket of late but what I can say is that India in their last Test match at the Oval has got a win against this very strong England team. They will be taking a bit of confidence from that.”
The former Proteas batter believes the Indian team has the chance of winning the game on the final day of the match, as the surface will be good track batting, and reckons that the Indian spinners will look to come into play in the latter stages of the game.
“I think India will come out on top on day five of the Test match. I think it might go all the way. It’s a good wicket to bat on but I think the Indian spinners will come into play in the latter stages of the Test match,” Ab de Villiers said.
Indian team under Rohit Sharma will be highly motivated to end their ICC title drought against Australia, as the Men in Blue could not cross the line in recent ICC events, as the Indian team players crumbled under pressure in the crunch games despite doing very well in league stages.
I Can’t Wait To See Him Do Well In The UK – Ab de Villiers
Ab de Villiers picked Indian batting maestro Virat Kohli as the player to watch out for the in high octane final, as he thrives to perform in the big matches for the country and mentioned his records against high-quality opponents Australia and England in recent years and excepts him to do well in WTC final against Australia.
“I am just going to mention one and someone who has always been fired up with all these kinds of series, especially in the UK and Australia. Everywhere he has travelled, he wants to prove a point – it’s Virat Kohli. It’s great to see him enjoy the game of cricket and I can’t wait to see him do well in the UK again,” Ab de Villiers added.
The star Indian batter Virat Kohli is expected to play a vital role for India in England conditions, as he carries an ample amount of experience playing in the England conditions over the last few years.
