‘Yo-Yo’ Test Not the Real Reason Behind Yuvraj’s Axing, Doors Still Open for him: Reports

Failing to clear the ‘Yo-Yo’ test is not the real reason behind dropping Yuvraj Singh, a report in TOI suggests.

The news has come a day after it was reported that both Yuvraj Singh and Suresh Raina failed to clear the ‘Yo-Yo’ test at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bangalore. As per the norm of the Indian cricket team, a player has to reach the point of 19 so as to prove his fitness but Yuvraj was barely touching the mark of 16. Same was the case with Raina.

While this resulted in the axing of Yuvraj, it also meant that there was no hope for Raina to make a comeback in the team. However, now it has been learnt that Yo-Yo test is not the real reason and it has been Yuvraj’s form that forced selectors to ‘rest’ the senior player,

“Those reports are completely wrong. It wasn’t the reason for his omission,” a source told TOI.

Yuvraj Singh made his comeback in the Indian team at the start of the year for the series against England. There, his innings of 150 in Cuttack ODI ensured that he was the part of the Indian team in the ICC Champions Trophy.

However, there, after just one glorifying inning of 53 against Pakistan, he failed to go the same way but was still given a chance for the series against Windies.

His poor form followed him there as well and finally after three ODIs, he injured himself and did not play any game further. There were chances of selectors taking a call on him and finally, they dropped him for the series against Sri Lanka and termed it as being rested.

The words of MSK Prasad also meant that the doors are not yet close for him and he can still make a comeback in the Indian team if he performs well in the domestic cricket.

The same is the case with Suresh Raina. Last season, he played just three domestic games and failed to draw selectors attention. Doors are open for him as well and the only way to earn a comeback is by performing well in the domestic structure,

With India set to play another long home season, both the players are surely a part of the plan and have chances of making a comeback, subject to form at the grassroots level.
