India’s latest batting sensation Shubman Gill is eyeing to make a mark in the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL). Meanwhile, Kolkata Knight Riders roped in Gill during the auctions of the cash-rich league.
Shubman played a crucial role in Indian’s successful campaign in the ICC U19 World Cup in New Zealand. Meanwhile, he notched up three fifties and one hundred to win the Player of the tournament.
Like many youngsters, Shubman Gill would obsessively watch Sachin Tendulkar bat, and harboured dreams of playing with the legend some day. However, he couldn’t fulfill his dream as Tendulkar retired from cricket in 2013.
“After Sachin paaji quit the game, I found inspiration in Virat [Kohli]. He is my idol now,” Shubman said to Sportstar.
Waiting for a great moment
Shubman is looking to cement a berth in the Kolkata line-up when it takes Royal Challengers Bangalore in the senior opener.
“It would be a great moment for me to play alongside Virat. I would like to display my batting to Virat if I make it to the final XI. That would be really good,” Shubman added.
Meanwhile, Shubman admitted that he is happy to reunite with U19 teammates, Shivam Mavi and Kamlesh Nagarkoti.
Looking forward to learning a lot:
Shubman is also looking forward to learning a thing or two from the Knights’ coach Jacques Kallis.
“I want to know a few things from Kallis sir on how to improve my game. He is such a great cricketer, it would be good to hear about his experiences. I am really keeping my fingers crossed,” he says.
Meanwhile, shubman has already had the opportunities to share the nets with Robin Uthappa, who has given some important tips.
The young batsman also believes that IPL is all about mental toughness.
“The intensity is more here. When you are playing at a higher level, one has to keep the morals high and play as per situation. It is important to be mentally tough,” he concluded.
