Young pacer from Kerala claims all ten wickets in an innings

Claiming 10 wickets in an innings is a rarity in cricket and when a bowler achieve it at a young age of just 18,it seems more special.
Nazil CT from Kannur became the first bowler to achieve the unique feat of picking up all ten in an innings in Kerala’s junior inter-district tournament history.

The 18-year old took nine wickets in an innings in an inter-KCA-academy match a couple of years ago. On Wednesday, he bettered his own record.

Opening the bowling for Kannur, he took all the 10 wickets of Malappuram in the North Zone (under-19) inter-District cricket championship.

He did all the damage in one devastating spell of swing bowling. His figures of 9.4-4-12-10, dismissed the batting team for a paltry score of 26.
At such a young age, bowlers often concentrate on bowling as fast as possible, but Nazil said that his prime focus is swing.

“I’m an inswing bowler and I don’t strive for much pace and it helped that the ball moved around in the morning,” he said.

The bowler also said that the he is a huge fan of Indian bowler Bhuvneshwar Kumar.

The bowler also said that he was initially not thinking about taking 10 wickets in the innings, and it came to his mind only after claiming the seventh wicket.

“It was after taking my seventh wicket that I began to think of the ten-wicket haul,” Nazil said.

“This is, of course, something you could never have imagined.”

He said the conditions had helped on this day.

“Since play begun at 7.15, because of the extreme heat, I could get some swing,” he said.

“But it was only in my fourth over that I got my first wicket. I was able to in-swing the ball well.”

Nazil hails from a family with a cricketing background. His cousin, Fabid Farooq, the offspinner who made his first-class debut for Kerala last season.

“I would like to play for Kerala one day. For the moment, it’s about doing well for my district team,” said the young pacer.

Malappuram: 26/10 (Nazil 10-12) and 43-0
