Younis Khan to miss first test against West Indies

Pakistan has been dealt a major blow ahead of the test series against West Indies in UAE. Veteran batsman and all time leading run scorer for Pakistan, Younis Khan were ruled out of the first test in Dubai, as he is yet to recover fully from dengue. Khan was diagnosed with dengue a couple of weeks ago and was on the path to recover in time for the series. However, he was further advised bed rest by the doctors in Karachi, that has effectively ruled him out of the day and night test in Dubai.
The news about Khan’s illness was seconded by a source in the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), who added that the senior batsman should be fit in time for the second test. The Dubai test is set to be just the second day and night test after the first encounter was played between Australia and New Zealand last year at Adelaide.
“Yes, Younis has ruled himself out of the first Test and has asked for another 8 to 10 days to make a complete recovery,” a PCB official said. “Younis has informed chief selector Inzamam-ul-Haq that he won’t able to play the first Test.” “The selectors are yet to announce the squad, but it is confirmed that Younis will not take part in the opening game in Dubai. He asked for rest to be fully fit before his national selection since he has recently recovered from dengue.”
After going through an indifferent patch in the first 3 tests against England, Khan struck form in the fourth test at The Oval, as he laid the pillar for a series-leveling victory for Pakistan with his knock of 218.
