Yuvraj Singh slams a ton in Ranji Trophy

The axed Indian all-rounder Yuvraj Singh has smashed a swashbuckling century in the Ranji Trophy against Madhya Pradesh. At one stage, Punjab was two down for a mere total of 15, Yuvraj had an additional pressure of leading the team as well as to steer the team to a safe total. Comeback plan to Indian team was also somewhere in the back of his mind, he bravely faced the fiery new ball session from Ishwar Pandey and stitched a beautiful and brave partnership with Jiwanjot Singh to post a total of 189/2 till tea break.
This century from Yuvraj can be rated as the best century of his career as it came in a difficult condition on a testing pitch as Lahli pitch is the fastest pitch in India. It is the same pitch where last week Mumbai and Tamil Nadu batsmen surrendered against each other bowlers. Mumbai had a target of mere 97 runs in the final innings; it took them 7 wickets to achieve this target as none of the batsmen was able to face the opposition bowlers due to the nature of the pitch.
Here, the conditions are known to be bowler’s friendly with ample of bounce and assistance available especially for the new ball.
This century has come as a timely reminder for selectors as Yuvi has not been selected in the ODI squad for the first three-ODI’s against New Zealand. Though, there were rumors that the all-rounder will get a nod in the squad but still selectors decided to drop him. He has already cleared the fitness test a few days back and selectors are waiting him to perform so as they can select him in the squad as he can give more worth as an all-rounder in comparison to Suresh Raina who is down with viral fever and is set to miss the first ODI of the series.
In any case, if Raina is not fit for second ODI as well, we may see Yuvraj walking in the squad in place of Raina but for that Yuvraj has to get a big one here, something more than a century.
