The summer is going to be an exciting one for Everton’s young English defender John Stones who is a target of European giants Real Madrid, Manchester City, Chelsea and Barcelona according to The Daily Mail.
Ex-Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho tried to sign John Stones all summer but Everton stood firm and rejected bids as high as £38million for the defender.
Things have changed considerably now and interest in Stones has intensified. Along with Chelsea, Real Madrid, Barcelona and Manchester City are all keeping tabs on the young defender.
Chelsea’s interest has not waned since last summer though their chances of signing him have depleted to a great extent due to their dismal performance in the Premier League. The other teams are all certain to play Champions League football next season something which Chelsea can’t offer and this puts them at the end of the queue for him.
Everton have insisted that Stones is not for sale and he is under contract until 2019 but it would be expected that they would prefer to sell to one of the Spanish giants rather than a Premier League rival.
Real Madrid might be banned from making any signings in the next 2 windows but that hasn’t forced them to end their interest in the player. Former manager Rafa Benitez tried to sign Stones but even after the Spaniard’s dismissal, the Los Blancos maintain an interest in Stones and will hope that an appeal against the transfer ban would enable them to sign players.
Madrid’s arch rivals and European Champions Barcelona are now also monitoring Stones, though they may not be willing to pay £50m for the player.
Manchester City are planning for life under Pep Guardiola and they certainly have no inhibitions about paying big-money for young English talent. City have spent around £80 million on Elaquim Mangala and Nicolas Otamendi but both are struggling in the absence of Vincent Kompany.
