There is no doubt that Arsenal have made a positive start to the Premier League campaign this season and are fighting hard to challenge for the title. Despite that, injuries have once again halted their progress and the Gunners have struggled to cope up with fatigue as well, which has been clearly visible in their Champions League struggles. The north London side will be hoping to qualify for the knockout stages of the competition and push for more titles in the current campaign, as manager Arsene Wenger had suggested at the start of the season.
In order to cope up with the current injury situation, here are 5 players that the French manager can possibly sign in the January transfer window:
5. Sergie Samper:
The young Barcelona star is a high quality defensive midfielder who can surely be one for the future and Wenger will look to add him to his squad in order to add more talent to it. The 20 year old Spaniard has already made 87 appearances for the Barcelona B side and has played at various levels for his national side, except the main team which he might feature for soon.
It was speculated that Arsenal wanted to sign him on previous occasions, though an offer was never really made and will now once again look to make a deal happen. If a deal does go through, it will be a huge boost for the Londoners, who are in desperate need of some reinforcements.
4. Lars Bender:
The German international has been impressive in recent times and is another high quality defensive midfield player who could really make a difference at the Emirates. The long term injuries to Francis Coquelin and Santi Cazorla, along with the absence of Mikel Arteta from the side as well will mean that Wenger has to make a move for yet another high quality player in that role and Bender who has already proved himself could be the right man for the Frenchman’s side.
It will be interesting to see if the Arsenal boss does indeed spend money to sign the 26 year old midfield superstar, though there is no doubt that he is wanted by a host of clubs from across Europe as well.
3. Mario Gotze:
The man who scored in the finals of the World Cup to secure the win for his side has not been really a huge success since moving to Bayern Munich. The midfielder has barely played 66 games for the Bundesliga champions, scoring 20 goals since completing his move from former club Borussia Dortmund in 2013. There were previous speculations of a possible exit in the summer as well, though Gotze decided to stay at the Allianz Arena back then.
However, if he does not get more first team action, the 23 year old superstar could be all set to leave Germany and England could surely be a possible destination for him.
The Real Madrid man is wanted by a host of clubs across the continent and could be a huge asset for Wenger as well, if the move does happen. The Spanish international is a high quality player and has already proved himself at the top level. Also, since he is just 23 years old, he could be an a future star with the Premier League giants depending on how Wenger uses him in his side.
Though Arsenal do have a lot of attackers, injuries have always been a problem for them and there is no doubt that Isco could surely be a good option to have in the squad as well.
1. William Carvalho:
The Portugal international was wanted by Arsenal in the past and the Gunners were close to signing him as well, though a deal never happened. This time, Wenger will have to really push through for a deal as his squad is desperately in need of more reinforcing after the recent set of injuries. Carvalho is a high quality player, who can fortify the midfield with his defensive work and is just 23 at present.
He can surely a huge star in the Premier League and the north London side will hope that a deal goes through soon, if they want to seriously challenge for titles this season.
