5 talking points from Liverpool’s win against Arsenal

Liverpool have started their Premier League campaign against rivals Arsenal at Emirates Stadium and have managed to clinch a thrilling 4-3 win against the Gunners. Having given the lead to Arsenal, the Reds went on a roll as they have scored four goals on a trot in less than 20 min on either side of half time.

The Gunners, however, made a stunning comeback as they pulled two goals back with 15 minutes to play. But the Reds managed to hold their nerve as they saved their one goal lead to claim all three points in the season opener.

1. Does Arsenal need to sign a striker?

The Gunners have plenty of options in attack and have been very effective in attack with Theo Walcott leading the charge in today’s game. Arsene Wenger is highly criticized for not signing a striker till now.

Considering the fact that young Serge Gnabry is on a roll at Rio Olympics as he already scored six goals in the games, Arsenal might not need to add more strikers into their squad for the season.

2. Is this finally Liverpool’s year?

Jurgen Klopp is expected to do big things and has promised a Premier League title in his first three seasons in his first interview as Liverpool manager. The manager have brought in a number of signings this summer and is very happy with the squad that is at his disposal.

The German is finally having the squad he likes as he begins the Premier League campaign for the first time since his arrival at Merseyside.

3. Philipe Coutinho- The man on a mission

The 24-year old is one of the exciting young talents in entire Premier League and has impressed in spells for Liverpool in the past three years under Brendan Rodgers. However, Jurgen Klopp is set to make his plans around the Brazilian play-maker this season.

Often called “Little Magician” by the fans at Liverpool, the Brazilian have scored 2 goals in today’s fixture and turned the match around with his brilliance. The Reds’ progress could largely depend on the form of Coutinho this season.

4. Arsenal lacking a leader in defense

One of the major observations from the match is the effect of Per Mertesacker’s injury in Arsenal’s defense. The defense looked scrambled at times as they made some silly mistakes which have let them down in the match.

The Gunners need an experienced defender more than a striker before the end of the transfer window if they have to challenge for the title this season.

5. Liverpool should buy a left-back

The injury to James Milner in the pre-season meant Jurgen Klopp had to rely on Alberto Moreno to play as left-back. The young Spaniard had a nightmare in the season opener as he looked out of sorts all throughout the game.

He eventually conceded a penalty with a rash tackle on Arsenal’s striker Theo Walcott. If the performance in today’s game is anything to go by, Klopp could very well sell the player as the fans are running out of patience over the defender.
