The opening ceremony of the third edition of Indian Soccer League was a star-studded affair. Held at Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium Guwahati, the glitzy ceremony was attended by several high-profile names like John Abraham, Nita Ambani, along with Former cricketer Sachin Tendulkar, Rio Olympic silver medallist PV Sindhu, Abhishek Bachchan, Varun Dhawan, Alia Bhatt and Jacqueline Fernandez., in the presence of the Chef Minister of Assam Sarbananda Sonowal all metamorphosed magically to orchestrate the Grand Opening Ceremony for the country’s most high-profile footballing event – Indian Super League 2016.
However, it seems that the Grand Opening Ceremony for the country’s most high-profile footballing event has not gone down too well with Indian ace shooter Abhinav Bindra. The 2008 Beijing Gold medalist took to Twitter to take a dig at the ceremony and said that the opening ceremony gives an indication towards the quality of sports in the country.

Meanwhile, the opening ceremony was succeeded by the first match of the season between North East United and Kerela Blasters. The home started their season with a win as they defeated Kerela by 1-0. Both the teams were looking evenly matched at half-time but North East United’s Japanese forward Katsumi Yusa made the difference when he scored the only goal of the match in the 55th minute.
