Arsenal forward Alexis Sanchez will miss season curtain raiser Community Shield and would most probably miss the start of Premier League. The Chilean will start training with the squad the day after Arsenal take on Chelsea in Community Shield at Wembley confirmed Arsene Wenger.
The decision is primarily based after Chile clinching Copa America against Argentina on home soil with Sanchez scoring the decisive penalty. The manager is keen to rest his best player to get the best out of him after he is well rested.
Wenger is not willing him to rush him into the action as the player already played a very high number of games last season. The former Barcelona forward has not travelled with Arsenal contingent to Singapore as Wenger gave him an extended rest period.
Wenger said: “He’ll be back with us on the third of August and it takes about three weeks to competitive. It could take him a little bit less time [to get match fit] but he’ll miss our first game,”
Arsenal are currently in their pre-season in Singapore as they are competing in the Barclays Asia Trophy and then they move back to England to compete for Community Shield followed by league action.
The Chilean has played a massive 69 games since the start of World Cup last season and have drained him both physically and mentally and the rest period would help him to get back on track to compete next season.
