Arsenal continued their good run of form with a 3-0 win over their favourite side West Ham. Goals from Olivier Giroud, Aaron Ramsey and Mathieu Flamini registered their 11th win in their last 13 games.
With the win, Arsenal have now further established themselves at 3rd position in the League standings. The win comes at the perfect moment as it would act as the perfect catalyst, which was needed for Arsene Wenger’s men ahead of their very important midweek Champions League clash against Monaco.
We take a look at the key talking points from the game as the Gunners coasted to an easy win:
Arsenal players had the fans’ support behind them
It was a rare sight after the final whistle to see the Arsenal fans being vocal post their FA Cup success against Manchester United. Fans showed their anticipation for the Wembley trip. Arsenal’s form in the league has been worth applauding and seeing a full stadium behind them was exactly what the players needed before the Monaco clash.
Score line did not do justice to Arsenal’s performance
Arsenal were effective at creating goal scoring opportunities from the counter attacks. Arsenal had 19 shots in the game with 9 being on the target. West Ham goal keeper Adrian, kept the hammers in the game. Adrian pulled off at least 4 clear goal scoring opportunities in the game, which would have given a different and perhaps a more deserving look to the scoreline.
Another weak performance from Theo Walcott
Theo Walcott was preferred ahead of Santi Cazorla in this game and had the chance to prove his worth to this Arsenal side but the return was appalling from the Englishman. Out of all the outfield players for Arsenal, Walcott played the worse. Early on in the game, he missed a clear-cut opportunity to score and since then he lacked confidence and conviction going forward.
With rumours linking him away from Arsenal, such a weak performance could have been avoided by Theo Walcott. Liverpool and Man United have been credited with an interest in him earlier today.
Giroud is Arsenal’s go-to man at the moment
With 14 goals in 24 games since his return clearly means that Olivier Giroud is Arsenal’s #1 striker at the moment despite Danny Welbeck’s presence in the squad. The Frenchman has hit a purple patch in recent weeks. Apart from a weak game against Monaco, Giroud has been Arsenal’s answer to the crucial and timely goals.
Arsenal possess the most talented bunch of midfield players
No longer, it can be said that Arsenal’s midfield lacks steel, craft or precision. With players like Francis Coquelin, Aaron Ramsey, Flamini and a fit Jack Wilshere, Arsenal’s central midfield looks better than ever. In Coquelin, Wenger has found the answer for a player who can fill Vieira’s shoes. Ramsey is a proper goal scoring midfield player.
Going further forward, not many sides will have the luxury of picking Mesut Ozil, Alexis Sanchez and Santi Cazorla in their playing 11 week-in-week-out. On form, Arsenal are the best side to watch and it happens only because of these classy players at work who know their craft better than most.
