Arsene Wenger’s Arsenal stepped out of his role for a month at the start of the season as he spent big on a few transfers to improve the squad in the summer.
The likes of Rob Holding, Granit Xhaka, Shkodran Mustafi and Lucas Perez, all joined the Emirates in the summer and though most of the players have settled in pretty well, the manager is still looking at further additions to the squad.
He has been relatively silent in the January transfer window but reports today suggest that Arsene Wenger is close to agreeing on a deal for a player for a move in the summer.
A story run by WhoScored today claims that Arsenal have agreed on personal terms for a summer transfer for AS Roma ace Kostas Manolas.
The Greek international is one of the most consistent and reliable players in his position in Europe and is wanted by a number of clubs this transfer window.
Antonio Conte’s Chelsea and Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United are also linked with a move for the star in the future but if the reports are true, Arsenal have pipped their Premier League rivals to a top class signing.
Wenger was desperate for defensive additions in the summer and was linked with Manolas but the Italian outfit refused to let the player go at the start of the season.
Manolas has been immense a the back so far this season for Roma and though a couple of clubs were ready to swoop for the 25-year old this summer, the Serie A side were not ready to let him go.
The Gunners themselves were rejected in their approach earlier this month but the reports claim that Roma are ready to listen to offers already but will only let the player go after the end of the current campaign.
At his age, Manolas is easily one of the most exciting talents in Europe at the moment and Wenger might have to break the bank to land his services.
It is understood that Manolas has agreed personal terms with the Emirates outfit over a switch in the summer and Arsenal are now negotiating a transfer price with the Italian outfit.
According to the reports, Wenger is ready to pay a mammoth £47m bid which will make the Greek international one of the most expensive defenders in the game.
This bid will also mean that Wenger will have to break the club record in the summer but do you think Manolas is worth it?
